COVID 19 : 25,404 new cases in last 24 hours in India

NEW DELHI: India on Tuesday reported COVID 19 : 25,404 new  cases in the last 24 hours, pushing the country’s overall coronavirus tally to 33,289,579, according to data updated by the ministry of health and family welfare at 9 am. This is the third day in a row when the daily count of cases has remained below the 30,000-mark. Yesterday, the country reported 27,254 daily new cases. In a span of 24 hours, 339 more people died due to Covid-19, pushing the death toll to 4,43,213.

In a sigh of relief, the number of active cases in the country declined by 12,062 in the last 24 hours. Currently, the active case tally stands at 3,62,207.

To detect infection, in the last 24 hours, 14,30,891 samples were tested, according to ICMR. So far, 75.22 crore vaccine doses have been administered under the nationwide vaccination program that started on January 16 this year.
According to the ministry, 75,22,38,324 doses of Covid-19 vaccines have been administered so far as per provisional reports till 7 am on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, the total number of people recuperated from Covid-19 has now reached 32484159, with 37,127 more discharges registered during the previous day.

At 15,058, Kerala leads the states with most number of daily cases but for the first time in many days, daily cases are below the 20,000-mark. The state today reported 99 deaths, which is an increase over yesterday’s 67 deaths.

Maharashtra, the worst-hit state in terms of overall Covid cases, reported 2,740 new cases in a day. It also reported 27 deaths.

UTTAR PRADESH

Uttar Pradesh, the most populous state, reported eight new cases, while in neighbouring Delhi, the national capital, there were 17 new cases. Both states reported zero Covid deaths.

WORLD HEALTH REPORT

The World Health Organization’s approval for the indigenous COVID-19 vaccine Covaxin, developed by the Hyderabad-based Bharat Biotech, is likely to come this month, news agency PTI said quoting official sources.

The battle against Covid will require a studied combination of vaccines, effective drugs, and disciplined social behaviour, according to Dr VK Paul, a member of NITI Aayog, India’s public policy think-tank. “Wearing the mask will not go away…for some time…We will continue to wear the mask even through the next year…” Dr Paul told NDTV in an exclusive interview on Monday. 

The test positivity rate – number of positive cases identified per 100 – stands at 1.78 per cent.
